October 4, 2006 – Rotary Notes

Words from the Top:

As members of the Dexter Rotary Club we have many opportunities to serve our community.  Larry is trying to get us another date at the Ronald McDonald House to serve dinner again.  The Christmas season is coming (just look at the stores with their displays) with additional opportunities to serve, Adopt-A-Family and Salvation Army bell ringing.

There are also many opportunities to serve your Club.  The Art, Food and Wine Committee should be reforming for next spring’s event.  Mark Mueting is willing to serve on the committee again.  Others who are interested should form the committee and decide on a chairperson.

Another opportunity as a Club member is to lead the Club for a year as president.  My term runs through June 30, 2007 with John Hansen’s term covering the 2007-2008 year.  Please consider a term as president for the 2008-2009 Club year.  Our past presidents will be scouring the roster for likely candidates.  If you are interested in a term as president, please let one of our past presidents know.

Remember that the staff at Cornerstone School would like us to park in the large lot to the east of the school.

Thanks,
Fred

Announcements:

This Week’s Speaker:
Laurie Baumer will speak on the topic of “A Center for Grieving Children in Washtenaw County.” You may have read about this project which will be a resource for children in our area who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Come learn more about this very interesting project.

Youth exchange news:
Many thanks to those who pledged money to help fund sports activities and a yearbook for Koy. Your support of our youth exchange program is greatly appreciated! If you have not already done so, you can give your money to Bill.

There are still many openings for you to host Koy for an outing. There is a special opportunity for someone to share that most American of holidays, Thanksgiving, with Koy and the Hillgrens. Please speak to Lori or Ulf if you are able to include three more at your Thanksgiving table.

Also, volunteers are needed to drive to and from district youth exchange events. Pat Conlin has offered to recruit some folks from Chelsea also. Please indicate your willingness to volunteer even if you can’t commit to a date at this time.
