May 8, 2007 – Rotary Notes

From the Top:

Lori and I met with Koy's next host family Monday evening.  She will be joining the Sennov's the weekend of May 19th for her last six weeks in the U.S.  During the discussion we realized that Koy, as a senior at Dexter High School, will be done with school on May 18th.  This will leave her with many days to fill before her departure in early July.  Please keep this in mind as you plan day trips.  If you think it would be something Koy might enjoy please contact Lori to coordinate with the host family.

A couple weeks ago I passed out our upcoming meeting locations.  If you recall, we were to be at different locations during the month of June.  That schedule has been altered slightly and the new locations are listed below.

Thru June 7: Cornerstone cafeteria

June 14: Cornerstone School MEDIA CENTER

June 21 thru August 30: CREEKSIDE SCHOOL cafeteria  (this is our prior location)

June 28: No Breakfast meeting  (Presidents’ Night event at Gordon Hall, dinner served)

September 6 thru June 2008: Cornerstone School cafeteria

Thanks,
--Fred

GSE Report:

Many thanks to all who made our Thai guests feel welcome in Dexter during what was a very busy week for many of us. Hai, Jay and Amy enjoyed their only “small-town” experience in America while they were with us. Special thanks to Gil for arranging a tour of Gordon Hall and to Paul for making time to do the tour. If you’ve not been there yourself, you’re in for a treat on presidents’ night. Also thanks to Francie for assisting with dinner Thursday night and especially to Ulf for hosting Hai.

Our GSE next year will be with Turkey. Please consider your friends, acquaintances and employees who might be interested in participating in this all-expenses-paid opportunity to learn about their field through a cross-cultural exchange. Participants must be age 25-40 and may be in any vocational field. Applications will be accepted next Fall so start working on them now.

Rotate Your Food:

For the 2nd year, our club will cooperate with Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti in the “Rotate Your Food” project which has as it’s goal to collect extra food to stock Foodgatherers shelves during the summer months. When schools are out, donations tend to drop while families needing food rise because school lunch programs are not available. Last year’s “Rotate Your Food” drive collected over a ton and a half of food!

This year’s drive is scheduled for June 4-16. Here is the list of participants in Dexter. A collection container will be supplied to each of these locations. Please notify me lsprague75@sbcglobal.net if I left out your location (or included you in error.)
